Private Lewis Lett Stevenson
Lewis Lett Stevenson was born on 14 August 1877 at Derrytrasna, Lurgan, County Armagh, the first of at least eight children of farmer Christopher Stevenson and his wife Elizabeth Ann (nee Fox).
Stevenson enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 7 April 1913 aged 35 years (No.828 – later Corps of Hussars No.71121).
He embarked for France between 1916 and 1918, either as part of E Squadron in January 1916, or at a later date as part of a reinforcement draft. In May 1916 E Squadron joined with A and D Squadrons to form the 1st North Irish Horse Regiment, serving as corps cavalry to VII, XIX then V Corps until February 1918, when the regiment was dismounted and converted to a corps cyclist regiment.
How long Stevenson served with the regiment in France is not known. However it is likely that we was wounded or became ill, for on 10 February 1919 he was discharged under Paragraph 392 xvi(a) of King's Regulations – being "surplus to military requirements having suffered impairment since entry into the service".
Stevenson died at Derrytrasna on 30 January 1963.
